About Hacienda Guachipelin Hotel
Adventure beckons at Hotel Hacienda Guachipelín, positioned at the foot of the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. We are an eco-tourism hotel and an actual working horse and cattle ranch, celebrating the Guanacaste region’s cowboy heritage in the heart of the savanna.
The Adventure Park in Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. Natural hot springs, jungle forests, pristine waterfalls, and bubbling volcanic mud pools are just some of the many attractions you can enjoy during a stay with us. Hacienda Guachipelín Hotel is the ideal place where to stay in Rincon de la Vieja for an active vacation. Adventurers will thrill to swinging like Tarzan on the many cables and rappel ropes of the Canyon Canopy Tour, or bouncing down the rapids of Rio Negro on a Tubing Adventure. Ride Costa Rican ranch horses to natural volcanic thermal springs or spectacular waterfall pools. Transform yourself on our “cowboy for a day” tour. Have fun bird watching, hiking trails, and hiking to the active craters of the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano.
Since 1985, Hacienda Guachipelín has been hosting visitors from all over the world, while they enjoy the natural beauty of our ranch and the bordering Rincón de la Vieja National Park.
Rincon del Vieja Volcano National Park, Guanacaste Costa Rica
Rincón de la Vieja National Park surrounds two impressive volcanoes – the active Rincón de la Vieja and the dormant Santa María. Located 15.5 miles (25 km) northeast of Liberia in Guanacaste, Rincón de la Vieja is the largest volcano in the country’s northwest, and features a 15-kilometer-wide (9 miles) caldera. The park’s 24,800 acres are split into two sections, Las Pailas and Santa María. Las Pailas (“The Cauldrons”) includes the active volcano whose name means “Corner of the Old Woman”, along with fumaroles, mud pots, steam vents, and a number of waterfalls.
How to get here:
From Liberia: From the main intersection on the Pan-American Highway in Liberia (you'll notice three gas stations and Burger King / McDonald’s), drive 3 miles (5 km) north, toward the Nicaraguan border. Turn right at the entrance to Curubande / Rincón de la Vieja National Park – Las Pailas sector. It is 8.6 miles (14 km) to the village of Curubande, and another 1 mile (1.7 km) to the gate at Hacienda Guachipelín.(See map)
From the Liberia Airport:From the Liberia, Costa Rica International Airport, drive 20 miles (32 km) east to reach the Liberia main intersection on the Pan-American Highway. There, turn left to the north and follow the instructions above.
At the Hacienda Guachipelín gate, non-hotel guests must pay a fee of ₡700 colones per person for the use of the private road. This money goes directly to maintenance of the road and the parking area at the Las Pailas sector of the National Park. Both the road and parking area are maintained by Hacienda Guachipelín. From the gate, continue to the hotel; the Reception area is the second entrance on the left, past the restaurant. The Adventure Center is the first entrance on the left. (See Map)
