Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin is located about 10 minutes before the Las Pailas entrance of the Rincon de la Vieja National Park in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

If you are coming by car from San José or elsewhere in Costa Rica, drive to the city of Liberia on the Pan-American Highway. Pass the main intersection on the Highway for Liberia (you’ll see gas stations, Burger King and McDonald’s), and continue driving 3 miles (5 km) north. Turn right at the entrance to Curubande / Rincon de la Vieja National Park – Las Pailas sector. It is 8.6 miles (14 km) to the village of Curubande, and another 1 mile (1.7 km) to the gate at Hacienda Guachipelin.

From the Liberia International Airport: Drive 20 miles (32 km) east to reach the Liberia main intersection on the Pan-American Highway. There, turn left to the north and follow the instructions above.

At the Hacienda Guachipelin gate, please register with our guard if you have a hotel reservation or are a day visitor to our Adventure Center. Then continue to the hotel. The Adventure Center is the first entrance on the left. The Reception area is the second entrance on the left (after the restaurant).

Several private companies provide transportation to hotels and tourist destinations around Costa Rica. These companies offer safe and reasonably priced transportation throughout the country. To travel by public bus from San Jose, take the Pulmitan bus line to Liberia. The Pulmitan bus station is located on Calle 14 between Avenida 5 and Avenida 7 (2222-1650; 2666-0458). Buses leave every hour for Liberia between 3:00 AM and 8:00 PM. The trip takes 4 to 5 hours. Our hotel minivan can pick you up in Liberia and take you to Hacienda Guachipelin; there is a charge for this service. Please contact us in advance to make arrangements: info@guachipelin.com.

If you are coming from any of the Guanacaste beaches, Monteverde or Arenal, and wish to use public transportation, we recommend that you consult with your local hotel to determine the best way to get to Liberia.

Numerous international flights from the United States, Canada, Europe, and Central and South America now arrive directly to the Liberia International Airport (LIR) – your gateway to Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

If you are already in Costa Rica, or are flying in and out of the San Jose International Airport, domestic flights versus driving in Costa Rica save time. The driving distance from San Jose to Liberia is 130 miles (210 km), which takes approximately 4 hours; whereas the flying time is only 45 minutes from San Jose to Liberia International Airport. There are two local airlines with scheduled flights: Nature Air and Sansa Airlines.
