Surrounded by tropical dry forest, the Río Negro (Black River) Hot Springs feature six pools with thermal waters heated naturally by the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano. The soothing mineral waters are crystal clear and all natural, and the river flows through the pools constantly refilling them with water. Relax and enjoy luxuriating in our healing waters. You can also try our volcanic mud “bath”, where you smooth volcanic clay mud all over yourself like a spa “masque,” then after it dries, wash it off with a cool river water shower. The hot springs water will feel great afterwards!
To get to the Río Negro Hot Springs, you have two options:
Horseback riding: Go and return by horseback from Hotel Hacienda Guachipelín – approximately 1.5 hours each way.
Vehicle transport: Go and return by car or minibus (20 minutes) from Hotel Hacienda Guachipelín.
Changing rooms are by the springs’ entrance. There is a short 5-minute walk on a forest trail to get to the pools.
Tour times: Every hour, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM (to 1:00 PM for horseback ride)
Tour duration: 2 hours (4 hours by horseback)
